In ballistic terms, a Minute of Angle (MOA) is the arc formed by an angle of one minute (1/60th of a degree at any range). At 100 yards, MOA is 1.047". Weatherby® SUB-MOA rifles are guaranteed to shoot a 3-shot group of .99" or less at 100 yards (SUB-MOA) when used with specified Weatherby factory or premium ammunition. Performance

Cocking Indicator — Allows you to instantly see whether rifle is cocked or uncocked. An important safety feature.

Fully Enclosed Bolt Sleeve — Completely enshrouds rear of action to redirect high-pressure gases and brass particles in the event of a case rupture.

Three Rings of Steel — The cartridge casehead is surrounded by the recessed bolt face, which is surrounded by the barrel, which is surrounded by the machined steel receiver. Creates an extra measure of strength and structural integrity.

Cold Hammer Forged 24" Barrel — Maximizes velocity and produces a guaranteed 1 1/2" OR BETTER 3-shot group at 100 yards when used with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition. 20" and 22" barrels available on some models.

Integral Recoil Lug — One-piece machined receiver features integral recoil lug for the utmost in strength and structural integrity.

Monte Carlo Stock — Injection-molded composite delivers superior accuracy and durability. Monte Carlo design with raised comb is cast off to allow for quicker eye-to-scope alignment and faster target acquisition, while reducing felt recoil. Dual tapered forearm (back and upward) provides better grip and control under recoil and is flat-bottomed for a steady, stable rest. Low-density recoil pad greatly increases shock absorption and reducing felt recoil.

One-piece Forged Bolt — Provides maximum strength and structural integrity. Knurled bolt knob adds to the functionality and value.

Fluted Bolt Body — Features three gas ports to allow high-pressure gases to escape laterally in the event of an accidental case rupture. Longitudinal flutes reduce weight and bearing surface area, while minimizing binding for smooth action.

Factory-Tuned, Fully Adjustable Trigger — Our newly enhanced trigger system is fully adjustable for sear engagement and is factory set between .008 to .014. Let-off weight is factory set between 2.5 and 3.8 lbs. – averaging 3.15 lbs. Sears and triggers are hand-honed to provide an ultra-smooth surface to eliminate trigger creep. Each trigger is manually inspected and tuned to assure a clean, crisp trigger that will break precisely, improving shooter accuracy. (Additional sear engagement adjustments must be performed by a Weatherby Service Center or qualified gunsmith). A special grooved trigger shoe surface provides better “feel” and control.

Hinged Floorplate — One-piece bottom metal and hinged floorplate provides easy access to unfired cartridges in the magazine. Constructed of steel and lightweight alloy.

FAQ

Can I send my rifle back to Weatherby for rebluing and installation of a new stock?

Yes - your rifle can be sent to Weatherby for refurbishing or modification.

Weatherby offers rifles in standard caliber chamberings. Do they make ammunition for them?

Weatherby currently manufactures ammunition for Weatherby Magnum calibers only, and has no intentions to manufacture on an ongoing basis standard cartridge ammunition. Weatherby recommends you purchase premium standard cartridge ammunition from a high quality ammunition manufacturer.

NOTE:  Weatherby did produce a small run of non-Weatherby caliber ammunition in 1997. Calibers included: .270 Win., .30-06 Spfd., 7mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag., .338 Win. Mag., and .375 H&H Mag.

Will Weatherby ever make left-handed rifles again, if so what calibers?

All Weatherby Mark V® rifles (.257 Wby. Mag. - .460 Wby. Mag.) can be ordered as a left-hand model. For more information, please call the Weatherby Custom Shop at (805) 227-2600.

Why didn't my Vanguard® rifle come with a factory shot target?

In an effort to contain costs and keep the Vanguard as affordable as possible, we have discontinued the inclusion of a factory-shot target in each Vanguard box with our July 2009 promotion. However, every Vanguard rifle continues to be made to our exacting specifications and quality control. And as always, it is backed by a written accuracy guarantee (Guaranteed to shoot a 1 1/2" 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with premium (non-Weatherby calibers) or Weatherby factory ammunition).

What are the barrel threads of the Vanguard® rifle?

Vanguard® barrel threads are 26mm 1.5 pitch.

The Vanguard® is an economically produced alternative to the Mark V®. Why then wouldn’t Weatherby also produce a left handed Vanguard® to compliment the Mark V® left handed rifles?

The tooling cost for creating a left handed version of the Vanguard® is cost prohibitive.

What is Weatherby’s Warranty Policy?

Weatherby’s service policy statement reads as follows:

“Weatherby is a name that has been synonymous with quality firearms for over 65 years. All Weatherby® firearms are manufactured of the finest materials, and have been thoroughly inspected and tested in every phase of production.

Because of the confidence we have in our products, Weatherby does not provide a written warranty, but rather stands behind its reputation for customer service and satisfaction.

Simply stated, we will consider requests for service or repair of Weatherby® firearms on a case-by-case basis. A determination will be made, taking into consideration such things as the age and condition of the firearm, and the circumstances surrounding its malfunction or other problem.

Weatherby® will not be responsible for defects resulting from ordinary wear and tear, alterations by unauthorized persons, accidents, misuse, use of incorrect or other than factory-loaded ammunition, or failure to provide reasonable and normal maintenance.

Should any Weatherby® firearm require service or repair under this service policy, it must be delivered transportation prepaid to an authorized Weatherby Service Center. The product must be accompanied by a proof of purchase, and a letter explaining the problem. The rifle should also be insured by the owner at time of shipment, as Weatherby, Inc. can accept no responsibility for damage or loss in transit. Weatherby will pay all charges to return the product to the owner if it is accepted for service or repair under the provisions of this policy.”

Does Weatherby have an Accuracy Guarantee? And what should I do if my rifle does not shoot within the guarantee?

All Weatherby® (Mark V® and Vanguard®) rifles are guaranteed to shoot a 1- 1/2" (or better) 3-shot group at 100 yards from a cold barrel when used with Weatherby® factory ammunition. For Weatherby® rifles chambered in non-Weatherby® calibers, the guarantee is effective when premium loads are used. If for some reason your rifle does not shoot within the guarantee, Weatherby advises you to send the rifle to a Weatherby-authorized service center. After being tested by the service center, if indeed it does not shoot within the guarantee and the rifle has not been altered, the service center will repair the rifle under warranty, or forward it to the factory for inspection and replacement approval, if deemed necessary.

Weatherby guarantees that your rifle will shoot at a minimum one bullet type and grain weight within our accuracy guarantee.  We do not guarantee that every bullet type or grain weight for every caliber will shoot within our accuracy guarantee.

Select models (SUB-MOA) are guaranteed to shoot .99" or less at 100 yards when used with specified Weatherby factory or premium ammunition (3-shot group).

Are Mark V® barrels cryogenically treated?

What is the rate of twist and how does it affect accuracy?

Twist- the rate of spiral of the rifling. Given as the barrel length required for making one full revolution: i.e., “one turn in ten inches,” etc.
Nosler, Nosler Reloading Guide #6, November 2007

The rate of twist affects which bullets are the most stable in flight.  This then determines the best accuracy for your rifle.

* It is important to note that the rate of twist is determined by the cartridge developer and is usually at the optimum twist rate for stability.

Why are some Weatherby® rifles “free floated” and some are not?

We have found through our testing that barrels having a smaller outside diameter than our #3 contour require upward pressure to help stabilize the barrel for increased accuracy.  Our free floated barrels have enough rigidity in the barrel for them to be free floated.

What does Weatherby recommend as a break in procedure?

TWO BOX BARREL BREAK-IN
This barrel break-in procedure requires two boxes of ammunition to complete.  Start out by shooting one round at a time, cleaning the barrel thoroughly after each round and allowing it to cool.  This process should be followed for a total of ten rounds.

Then take the remaining thirty rounds and shoot ten three shot groups, cleaning the barrel thoroughly after each group and allowing it to cool completely before firing the next group.  Once ten, three shot groups have been fired the barrel is adequately broken in.  At this point the rifle can be sighted in and used.

What are the threads on an Accubrake?

Threads on the Accubrake are dependent on the barrel contour.

Contour Thread
#1 contour 1/2-28
#2 contour 9/16-24
#3 contour 5/8-24
#4 contour 11/16-24
Can I send my rifle back to Weatherby to have an Accubrake™ installed?

There is Weatherby-authorized Accubrake™ installation centers located across the United States. You can have an Accubrake™ installed on your rifle at any one of these centers or in the Weatherby Custom Shop in Paso Robles, CA. The work done by these centers is the same as would be done by the factory and the warranty of the rifle would still be in place. A list of these authorized installation centers can be found on this web site or you can call Weatherby for a list.

Does the Weatherby® Accubrake™ affect accuracy? And if so, in what way?

Any Muzzle brake can change the harmonics of the barrel .However; with the Accubrake ™we normally see only a slight change in the point of impact, not in the accuracy of the rifle.

Does my stock require special torque procedures when tightening the screws attaching the stock to the action on my Weatherby® rifle?

Screws for wood stocks have a torque specification of 35 inch pounds.  Please note, however, that you should tighten the rear screw first and then the front screw.

If yours is a Fibermark® or an Accumark® stock. The torque specifications is 55 inch pounds.
The correct assembly procedure is:

  1. Tighten the rear trigger guard screw first to 30 inch pounds.
  2. Align the Barrel to the center of the barrel channel in the fore stock.
  3. Tighten the front trigger guard screw to 30 inch pounds.
  4. Tighten the rear screw to 50-55 inch pounds.
  5. Finally, tighten the front trigger guard screw to 50 -55 inch pounds.

Applying this method, using a torque screwdriver of the proper size, will insure the proper fit between the receiver, and custom aluminum bedding block, as well as the proper positioning of the barrel in the barrel channel.
